Bringing back romance to rail travel in the US, Rocky Mountaineer debuted their newest rail route in August 2021! The new route, Rockies to the Red Rocks, is coming out with high praises and is very exciting for the US travel market! With covid19 travel restrictions still in place, it is exciting to have a new product to sell here in the United States. The new route which connects Denver, Colorado and Moab, Utah by train is some of the most exciting travel news we have received in months (other than the vaccine rolling out).

The Rockies to the Red Rocks is a 2 day (1 night) train route featuring some of the most scenic landscapes in the United States! Most of this new route is not accessible by car making this a rare experience for the intrepid traveler! With 60% of the route following the Colorado River, guests will be sure to see some of America’s most treasured sites including Big Ten Curve, Coal Creek Canyon, Gross Reservoir Dam, Moffat Tunnel, Byers Canyon, Gore Canyon, Burns, Glenwood Canyon, Parachute Creek, Mount Logan, De Beque Canyon, Mount Garfield, Ruby Canyon, Mount Peale & La Sal Mountains, Book Cliffs and Arches National Park.

The Rocky Mountaineer train operating this route will have 6 passenger cars with capacity of up to 52 passengers per car, per departure. The train is a custom designed single level train offering two services; Silverleaf and Silverleaf Plus.

Below is an overview of the train itinerary. Their tineraries will run from Denver to Moab or Moab to Denver. Rocky Mountaineer will also be offering several options to extend your trip with options to Salt Lake City and Las Vegas.

Rockies to the Red Rocks Itinerary:

Day 1: Denver to Glenwood Springs, 190 miles

  • Depart from Denver on your 190 rail journey to Glenwood Springs! Rail Highlights include Byers Canyon, Gore Canyon, Red Canyon, and Glenwood Canyon. Passengers may see wildlife such as bears, elk, bighorn sheep, coyotes, and more
  • This afternoon you will arrive into Glenwood Springs for your overnight where you will have time to explore local shops and restaurants, go hiking in the mountains, or experience the vibrant culinary scene. Rocky Mountaineer’s hotel partners in Glenwood Springs include Glenwood Hot Springs Resort, the Hotel Denver, and the Hotel Colorado.

Day 2: Glenwood Springs to Moab, 200 miles

  • Depart from Glenwood Springs on the 200 mile journey to Moab.
  • Upon arrival in Moab, you will be able to extend your journey as you wish!
